In 2023, my main project is "Little Lisa’s Odyssey”
My main project for 2023 is Little Lisa's Odyssey. In this project, I combined almost all of the illustrations and their story sequence. Since the action takes place in Homer's Odyssey. Some illustrations I didn't add, you can see them separately in my past posts. Let me remind you about my project, for those who have seen the odyssey of little Lisa for the first time;
Who is Lisa? Have you ever wanted to know who the little girl Lisa, who later became the famous Mona Lisa, was? What did she read, what did she dream about, who was her friend? Did she listen to or read Homer's Odyssey, so popular during the Renaissance? Could it be that the "sphinx" smile of the adult Gioconda is the result of little Lisa's travels and her encounters with the magical creatures in Homer's book? In this series of works, I turn to art, history, literature of the past and present, creating a new myth, my own odyssey. Overcoming hardship, adventure and encounters with fantastic creatures have always been part of the main and primary purpose of myths and fairy tales. The modern fairy tale is constructed in the same way as it was in the ancient times of Homer.Modern mythology is based on the following situation: a "deity" becomes a cultural product: a film, a picture, a comic book or literature. The functions of ancient deities are taken over by literary heroes, writers and screenwriters. Postmodernism is always ironic, and the "secondary" nature of a familiar plot only allows us to look at the story from different angles. I am creating a new story by assembling my own myth, an "odyssey" of illustrations and familiar stories from the past. I was inspired by Homer's Odyssey and James Joyce's Ulysses. And of course the genius of Leonardo Da Vinci! It was important for me to combine the past and the present in this project. To create something new and move forward, I use the knowledge and wisdom of past achievements of human culture. I deliberately "imitate" the manner of the old masters of the past, which was part of the concept of this project.New myths and stories are created using the modern opportunities that digital technology provides. Everything is drawn on a Wacom tablet, using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop programmes.

So, this is my heroine little girl Lisa, who finds the book "The Odyssey" by Homer on the balcony of her house and starts reading it.

Я создаю новую историю, собирая свой миф, "одиссею" из иллюстраций и известных историй прошлого. На создание проекта меня вдохновили "Одиссея" Гомера и "Улисс" Джеймса Джойса. Ну и конечно гений Леонардо Да Винчи! Для меня было важно объединить в этом проекте прошлое и настоящее. Чтобы создавать что-то новое и двигаться вперед, я использую знания и мудрость прошлых достижениях человеческой культуры. Lisa goes out into her garden reading a book by Homer falls asleep, and falls in with the fairy Calypso, with this episode begins the entire journey of Lisa on the trail of Ulysses. The fairy tells her her sad story. Odysseus, however, never stopped pining for his homeland and his wife. Finally the gods took pity on him and sent Hermes to the nymph with orders to release Odysseus. Calypso had to obey, and she let her lover go, previously helping him to build a raft on which he went on a further voyage.There is a version that Calypso committed suicide because of her love for Odysseus. Calypso missed Odysseus very much, but she did not commit suicide as the legend says. She underwent a strange metamorphosis. Out of longing and sadness, being a beautiful weaver, she began to weave even more. The tapestries depicted the sea, ships and Odysseus. But as time went on, the patterns became more and more intricate, like nets and cobwebs. And then, on one of the dreary days of the full moon, her appearance changed - she turned into a spider. Travelling sailors, seduced by the fragrance and beauty of the garden, fell into the net of the nymph Calypso. It was the revenge of a nymph in love who turned into a spider out of longing. Fortunately, this only happened on the full moon, but the poor sailors who got lost on the night of the full moon and got caught in Calypso's net.

Angel Heart, The Happy Kingdom of Alkinoi. Odysseus and his crew visit the kingdom of King Alkinoi. The king throws a feast and games in honour of the hero Odysseus. This is a place where the hero feels happy. My heroine Lisa finds herself in this happy kingdom and learns the secret of the kingdom of Alkinoi, where all people are happy, do not get sick and they have no wars.It turns out that people in this kingdom are happy thanks to the heart of an angel....
There is a legend about a blooming heart that was once washed ashore by the sea. It happened a long time ago in a small seaside town. People woke up to the fragrant smell of spring, birds were singing, and joy and peace entered their hearts. Everyone wanted to go out and see what had happened because it was late autumn. People went to where that magical smell was coming from - to the sea. On the shore there was a giant heart covered with different colours, it exuded the fragrance of love and happiness. Those who were braver came closer to see this strange phenomenon. Children were climbing the flowering branches as if they were trees, and birds and dogs were eating torn pieces of flesh that looked like candied fruit. There was no doubt about it, this heart was huge and blooming like a spring garden! What giant had lost it? The heart of an angel or a forgotten ancient god? Why was it here and where did it come from? The arguments and fears went away of their own accord. It had happened before that even whales had been thrown out by the sea, but never a huge heart the size of a whale. So people came to the decision that it was a gift from heaven.They picked some flowers, put the pieces of heart in their baskets and took them home. A day later, miracles began to happen; the sick were healed, those who sought happiness found it in small things, people stopped finding reasons to litter and anger. They ate the heart of the angel and planted flower seeds in their gardens and in the streets of the city. Affluence and happiness came to every home and family in that city. Everyone who came to this city found a shelter for their souls, harmony and peace settled in their hearts forever. Wars, terrible epidemics and famine left this place and these people forever. It is said that even now there is this happy city or country on earth, but it is hidden from people's eyes. But you can get there only if your heart coincides with the harmonious rhythm of the hearts of the city's inhabitants.

Lotophagi (Λωτοφάγοι, literally, lotus eaters), in Greek mythology, a peace-loving tribe that feeds on the fruit of the lotus. Lisa falls in with the amazing and peace-loving creatures. The lotophagi show her their magical fruit and the fruit of immortality. They lived on the north coast of Africa, in Libya, and on the island of Meninx. Homer, in the IX song of the Odyssey, says of them that they ate lotus flowers, which granted oblivion to those who ate them.
Odysseus' ships were driven by a storm to the country of lotophagi; the scouts sent to them were warmly welcomed by lotophagi, Odysseus' companions were treated to sweet honey lotus, having tasted which they forgot about everything in the world and, having lost the desire to return to their homeland, wanted to stay in the country of lotophagi forever. Odysseus had to make them return to the ships and tie them to the ship's benches (Homer, Odyssey, IX 83-104).

After tasting the lotus, Odysseus' companions wanted to stay on the island of bliss forever. The lotus is an ancient symbol of life. In Egypt, the hieroglyph "lotus" meant joy and contentment. In this case we can understand how great was the desire to settle forever on this blissful island.

Lisa rides her magical unicorn, assisted by Zephyr the wind. Zephyr, the wind (Ζέφυρος) - a wind, according to the ancient Greeks, prevailing in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, beginning in spring, and reaching its greatest intensity by the summer solstice.

Lisa meets Cyclops. Polyphemus is a one-eyed giant cyclops, son of Poseidon. He leads a secluded life high up in the mountains. Polyphemus does not like visitors, especially those who steal his possessions. A wolf, a fox and a hare stole sheep and vegetables from Cyclops, which made him terribly angry. Lisa, on her magical unicorn Brave, rides away untouched, because she did not steal anything from Cyclops.

The Lestrygonians (Ancient Greek Λαιστρυγόνες) were a nation of cannibalistic giants in Greek mythology. Their place of residence was a matter of dispute in antiquity. They met Odysseus and his companions when their ships sailed to the "high city" of Lamos. One of the companions sent by Odysseus to explore was swallowed by Antiphates, king of the Lestrygonians. Odysseus and his companions escape. My heroine Lisa finds herself in a magical forest where giants - forest people - live. She is afraid of them and thinks she is in the kingdom of the Lestrygonians. Fortunately, the forest giants are not evil cannibalistic leestrigons, but forest spirits. They put Lisa and her unicorn into a magical dream to test the intentions of the forest guests. Lisa and her unicorn pass the test of the magical dream and wake up rested and full of energy for new adventures. What kind of dreams did she have?

Lisa is visiting Circea. Who is Circeia? In Greek mythology, Circeia is the daughter of Helios and the nymph Perseid. She is a sorceress and, as we remember, turns Odysseus' friends into pigs for being rude. Further everything ends safely, but Odysseus has to spend almost a year on the island of the enchantress. I won't describe all the virtues and peculiarities of Circe, you can read it all yourself, but she served as an inspiration for many artists, poets and writers. So, in my myth the girl Lisa finds herself on the island of Meonia as a guest of Circea. Besides Lisa, there is another "prisoner" of Circea on the island - a magician, artist, inventor Leonardo. In this dimension, she meets the magician Leonardo for the first time. Lisa receives lessons in astronomy, magic and other useful sciences. Circea appears in the image of the universe to Lisa.

Cerberus likes to play ball like normal dogs. Lisa leaves Hades safely. The realm of Hades symbolises the journey of the inner consciousness through the dark corners of its fears and ignorance. Difficulties sometimes seem worse than they really are. Remember the fearsome dog that can be tricked with a tennis ball and you will feel better! There is always a solution, don't forget it, even in the worst moments of your life.

The screams of the Sirens do not frighten her, and is it possible to be afraid of the Sirens after the realm of Hades, knowing the magic words taught to her by Circe?

It's a complex action that makes birds think instantly. It makes them impulsive. To them, we are rough and slow. They're fast and incomprehensible to us. So how do you entice a creature that flies in the sky and sings for the angels? You need to interest the bird, offer it food, show it that communicating with you will be beneficial for them. Then the birds will probably follow you. Taming a bird is a very difficult business. Without a cage you will not be able to keep the bird, it will fly away from you. And this is already deprivation of freedom and violence to the bird. But if you are the owner of magic pipes, you are almost the demiurge of bird hearts. It is said that such trumpets are a gift of the sun god Helios and are available only to bird charmers. At the call of such a trumpet the birds will sing as a single orchestra. Small sun stars fly out of the trumpet like rays and the birds try to catch them with their beaks. A captured sunstar makes the bird sing, cheer and fly with you to the end of the world. Even the Sirens, against whom Odysseus' sailors could not resist, will listen to you and will not harm you. But where to get such a magic trumpet and learn the magic of the words of a bird charmer? Alas, as a rule, such trumpets are found only in the Sirens themselves, so they are almost impossible to get. Lisa was given such a trumpet by one of the Sirens and of course passed on the magic words of the caster.

Пойманная солнечная звезда заставляет птицу петь, ликовать и лететь с вами на край света. Даже Сирены, против которых не могли устоять моряки Одиссея, будут слушать вас и не причинят вреда. Но где взять такую волшебную трубу и научиться магии слов птицы-чародея? Увы, как правило, такие трубы встречаются только у самих сирен, поэтому достать их практически невозможно. Лизе такую трубу подарила одна из сирен и, конечно же, передала волшебные слова заклинателя.

James Joyce in Ulysses calls it "the irresistible modality of the visible." Everything we observe in our lives is part of our being. We cannot escape what are the preconditions and our actions now.

Our heroine Lisa was warned of the danger by the elusive god Proteus. So her magical unicorn Brave turned into a pegasus and they passed the danger. The wisdom of the episode is that the hero does not rush from extreme to extreme. When we find ourselves facing the abyss - Harbda (whirlpool, hopelessness and darkness and fear), it is important not to rush to the other extreme, to run into Scylla (unrestrained emotions, anger and aggression) To grow wings of wisdom and fly without obstacles.
Между Сциллой и Харибдой. Когда Одиссей со своими спутниками проходил через узкий пролив между Сциллой и Харибдой, он потерял шестерых своих товарищей. Нашу героиню Лизу предупредил об опасности неуловимый бог Протей. Поэтому ее волшебный единорог Храбр превратился в пегаса, и они миновали опасность. Moving rocks. The Symplegades (Greek Συμπληγάδες "colliding") in Greek mythology are rocks floating at the entrance to the Euxine Pontus: colliding, these rocks destroyed ships. Homer's Odysseus and his ship are tested. Lisa and her Brave Unicorn pass this test. The Unicorn turns into a dolphin and the rocks let our Argonauts through. Symplegades figuratively means bilateral simultaneous danger. If we look at the philosophical aspect of this myth, compromise and resourcefulness, the ability to get round sharp corners, are important here.

In the Odyssey, Homer describes these immortal bulls as beautiful (ἄριστος), broad, thick. Odysseus's crew steals the cows of the sun god Helios. One day Lisa, in the field where the cows are grazing, sees them being kidnapped. But all she does is watch as aliens kidnap Earth's cows. Circe tells her that there are many different forms of life in the universe. And Helios doesn't seem to mind, or maybe he's in on the action himself ?

Odysseus wins the contest with his bow, punishes the men who betrayed him and the servants and suitors who besiege his wife. Penelope, Odysseus' wife, recognises her husband even as an old man. Everything ends well, now Lisa will no longer worry about the hero. Lisa, after finishing the book, saw Homer walking among the stars. She smiled at him like an old friend. He plays the lyre and tells her a new poem, dedicated only to her, a little girl, but in the future. Someday her portrait will be painted by the great magician and artist Leonardo da Vinci, and people will unravel her smile. The little lothario showed her the portrait, which showed an unfamiliar woman. - Who is that? - Lisa asked confusedly. -You don't recognise that smile, look carefully in the mirror, Lisa!!!!. Lisa smiled and said: Shhhh, let it remain a secret, when I was reading Homer and thinking about Odysseus' journey, I always smiled dreamily..

Она улыбнулась ему, как старому другу. Он играет на лире и рассказывает ей новое стихотворение, посвященное только ей, маленькой девочке, но в будущем. Когда-нибудь ее портрет напишет великий маг и художник Леонардо да Винчи, и люди будут разгадывать ее улыбку. In the story “Little Lisa's Odyssey” I use myths and legends from different cultures of the world. It was important to me to combine the past and the present in this project. In order to create something new, and move forward you need to know about the past achievements of human culture. Perhaps someone will read Homer's Odyssey and Iliad and be inspired to create something new. New myths and stories are created using the modern opportunities that digital technology provides. All of these works can be purchased on OpenSea and Rarable, for those who collect NFT art. These works were an experiment, I wanted to bring something new to NFT, rather a bit forgotten from the culture of the past, combine it with modern blockchain art ;-) . В своей истории «Одиссея маленькой Лизы» я использую мифы и легенды разных культур мира. Для меня было важно объединить в этом проекте прошлое и настоящее.
